Apple has released firmware version 7B58 for the AirPods Pro 3, enabling the much-anticipated clinical-grade hearing aid functionality. This update builds on the hearing health features first introduced with AirPods Pro 2.
The new hearing aid mode uses the AirPods Pro 3's improved H3 chip to deliver real-time sound amplification that's customized to each user's hearing profile. Users can take a hearing test directly in the Health app, and the results are used to create a personalized amplification profile.
Key improvements over the previous generation include:
- More precise frequency-specific amplification across 48 bands (up from 32)
- Reduced latency for more natural conversations
- Background noise management that adapts to your environment
- Conversation Boost 2.0 with directional focus
This positions AirPods Pro 3 as a legitimate alternative to traditional hearing aids costing $2,000+. The update is rolling out globally and should appear automatically for all AirPods Pro 3 users.
