Why the Increase?

Tim Cook blamed the global memory crisis, stating Apple had "never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly." The root cause: AI data centers are buying up DRAM and NAND capacity at unprecedented scale, squeezing consumer electronics manufacturers. DRAM prices surged 98% in Q1 2026 with an additional 58–63% increase projected for Q2.

The Vision Pro isn't alone — Apple also raised prices on most Macs, iPads, HomePod, and Apple TV during the same June 25 announcement.

The Strategic Context

The price increase comes at a uniquely awkward time. Apple has stopped work on a Vision Pro successor, with no new model expected for at least two years.
