Meta Opens Ray-Ban Display to Third-Party Developers with New Wearables Toolkit

Meta has taken a major step toward making its smart glasses a true platform by opening Ray-Ban Display to third-party developers through a new Wearables Toolkit SDK. Alongside this, the Neural Handwriting feature is now rolling out globally to all Ray-Ban Display users.

The new SDK allows developers to build apps that leverage the Ray-Ban Display's cameras, speakers, microphone, and heads-up display. This is Meta's first time opening the smart glasses platform to external developers beyond a handful of launch partners, signaling confidence in the hardware's maturity and user base.

Neural Handwriting Goes Global

Neural Handwriting uses the Meta Neural Band wristband to detect finger movements via surface electromyography (EMG). Users trace letters with their index finger on any flat surface, and the system converts gestures into text. It now works across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and native messaging apps on both Android and iOS — though currently only in English.
